Back from the dead? 27 November 08

So, Devastations now have a couple of things to announce, after what has been a lengthy, and not entirely undeserved break…

First off, we are very excited to be returning to Melbourne to play our ONLY AUSTRALIAN SHOW at the East Brunswick Club on Friday Feb 6, 2009. One night only. Never to be repeated. In the round. Special guests to be announced very soon.

Secondly, we are pleased to announce that we have a collaboration with Blonde Redhead coming out on 4AD early next year, as part of the ‘Dark Was The Night’ AIDS benefit CD, curated by Bryce and Aaron from the National. It’s a track entitled ‘When The Road Runs Out’, with a beautiful vocal by Kazu.

Thirdly, on the subject of benefit CD’s – our version of ‘All Cats Are Grey’, by the Cure, is now available worldwide on ‘Perfect As Cats – A Tribute To The Cure’. Out now on Manimal Vinyl. This also features the Dandy Warhols, Jesu, Bat For Lashes, Indian Jewelry and a bunch more. All proceeds go to the Invisible Children charity, set up to help children in Uganda who have had their lives decimated by war.

And lastly, Conrad has contributed a track to the Alan Vega (Suicide) 70th Birthday 10” series, out right now on Blast First Petite. The track is a re-working of ‘Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne’ off the 2nd Suicide record, and features some lovely dubbed out synth from Benjamin John Power, of Fuck Buttons.

So, that is all for now… More news as it comes to hand…

Hope this finds you well.

SO... 25 April 08

... that blonde redhead tour was far and away the most fun thing we’ve done in the longest time.

now, we are all back in our homes and are getting ready to record a song for a cure tribute record, which will come out later this year on manimal vinyl. the song we have chosen to do is ‘all cats are grey’ off the ‘faith’ lp.

this will be our first trans-continental recording experience. check it.

after that, we go to primavera on may 31. this will be our sole festival for the 08.

and then… ?

then we will write. we will write like the wind. we will write like it’s wrong. we may do an EP, we may do a triple-album. we may do a cassingle. we may do a split cassingle.

in any case we are going to work hard and try not to repeat ourselves and keep it interesting for us and for you.

forever,

the latest and greatest 14 February 08

hola,
we are all warm and fuzzy to announce that we have been shortlisted (again! what the fuck!) for the australian music prize, this time for ‘yes, u’.
it’s a nice feeling.
in fact, such a nice feeling, that we have totally forgotten to mention that the aforementioned album is now out in the USA, as of about a week ago.
plans are being hatched to mount a stateside tour later in the year.
i, for one, am very much looking forward to getting back to the americas, as we haven’t been since 2006. its’ canyons, skyscrapers, subways and generous food portions fill me with a bright light that shines out of my chest.
in other closer-to-home news, soon we’ll be taking off on the laneway tour alongside many wonderful people. these will be our last australian shows for an indefinite period. come and commiserate with us.
lovingly,
devs xx

A heartfelt thankyou... 15 January 08

...to Mess+Noise for voting ‘Yes, U’ as Best Album of 2007.

It means a lot.

a missive from brrrrr-lin. 16 November 07

hey,

we’re presently having a wee break from sitting in vans and eating badly, but will be resuming said activities very soon, as we’re going to be touring the uk and bits of europe with scout niblett for a spell.

all dates are here or on the myspazz.

and ireland! we aren’t forgetting you! we’ll be there to do our own shows in late november. do come, if you’re able.

after all of this is said and done, we head back to our mother country for a while to play the lovely meredith festival and some other club shows.

it seems like there will be a whole lot of touring on the horizon, stretching well into the 08. we’ll keep you posted on all the movements as they come to hand.

aside from that, not much to report. berlin is FUCKING FREEZING.

no surprises there.

heartily,

A very nice London headline show 5 November 07

Hey,

Devs are snuggled back in their respective homes (we don’t live together like the Monkees anymore) after painting rainbows across Europe for the last month.

This means four things – sleep, sleep, doing laundry, and a headline show in London on Wednesday 7th Nov.

In that order.

Said event will occur at Corsica Studios which is at 4 Elephant Road, London, SE 17, 1LB.

Also playing on the night are Joana & The Wolf, and John + Jehn.

Entry is a fiver, but free before 9 PM, provided you send an RSVP email first to info@corsicastudios.com

And that, I believe, is all the information.

After this we go out with Scout Niblett in the UK and Europe, as well as some of our own shows on the green and blue grass of Ireland.

Now, laundry beckons…
